In an era where traditional social structures like churches, political parties, and unions are losing their binding force, society is grappling with increased loneliness, division, and a search for purpose. Zin in de samenleving (Meaning in Society) explores the hopeful and creative responses emerging from the ground up.

This book investigates ten diverse and innovative initiatives across the Netherlands that are forging new places of meaning, resistance, and perspective. Through vivid reports and interviews, it takes readers inside city monasteries, repair cafés, regenerative farms, social cooperatives, and activist movements. These are places where people are coming together to tackle today's most pressing issues—from the climate crisis and social inequality to personal well-being and the legacy of colonial history.

Zin in de samenleving combines these practical examples with insightful interviews with leading thinkers and academic reflections. It reveals the common threads that unite these new movements: a deep sense of community, a desire for genuine human connection, and a commitment to building a more sustainable and just world. This book is an inspiring guide for anyone seeking to understand how a more meaningful society is not just possible, but is already being built.
