Die Freien Gemeinden in Wisconsin
Berenice Cooper traces the German-American Free Congregations of Wisconsin, from their nineteenth-century origins to the surviving communities at Sauk City and Milwaukee. Drawing on movement publications, congregational records and interviews, she describes their principles, cultural activities, educational work and changing institutional affiliations. The article is particularly useful for understanding how German Free Religion developed in America and how the Sauk City congregation came into contact with Unitarianism.
