Description

This handbook describes the faith and practices of a living Indigenous Hawaiian religion, Kanenuiakea. After two centuries being huna (hidden, sacred) because of persecution and fear, its faith and practice is now shared publicly in so far as it will not be exploited. Kanenuiakea is an ethnic faith of peace and love and a member of the International Association for Religious Freedom. Its values are shared with those of good will.

About the Authors

Kumu Glen Kila

Kumu Glen Kila

Kumu Glen Kila was selected from birth to carry on the Hawaiian religion, Kanenuiakea. For his religious training, he was taught the beliefs and values of this centuries-old faith, which were passed down through generations away from public view.

After retiring as a school principal, he re-instituted the 500-year-old traditional Hawaiian Learning Center, Marae Ha'a Koa, to serve as the principal public means for preserving Hawaiian faith and practice. He now devotes his efforts to building community and preserving Hawaiian faith and culture.

George M. Williams

George M. Williams is a retired historian of religions, having spent a lifetime studying religions that liberate. He has written and made videos about the Hindu Renaissance, religion in modern Japan, and religion in Hawaii.
