PRESS RELEASE RE:UNDER
SIEGE: Religious Freedom in a Post-9/11 World. To be held at
the Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater, 2470 Nursery Road,
Clearwater from January 15 - 17, 2004.
To commemorate the birth anniversary of Martin Luther King
Jr., the International Association of Religious Freedom (IARF)
and the National Conference on Community and Justice (NCCJ)
are co-sponsoring an interfaith conference entitled "UNDER
SIEGE: Religious Freedom in a Post-9/11 World." The conference
will be held at the Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater,
2470 Nursery Road, Clearwater from January 15 - 17, 2004.
The conference will feature: keynote speeches by the Rev.
John Buehrens, former President, Unitarian Universalist Association,
Dr. Darrell Fasching, Professor of Religion at USF, and Mr.
Paul Andrews, board member, Council for a Parliament of World
Religions; panel discussions on "Religious Tolerance
& Understanding: Can't We All Just Get Along?" "Terrorism
& Religion," "Hate Crimes," and "Improbable
Pairs: Developing Interfaith Partnerships"; small group
discussions; and, a field trip to the Holocaust Museum. Other
organizations that are participating in the conference include
The First Amendment Center, The Southern Poverty Law Center,
People for the American Way, and the Florida Holocaust Museum.
The conference will culminate with a musical celebration featuring
groups from different religious and spiritual traditions.
The conference fee is $100 for adults, $60 for students and
one-day participants. The cost of the program includes meals
and one year's membership in the IARF. For more information,
